Snowy Belgium

My friend Victoria and I decided to liven up our lives and go to Belgium for the weekend. And since I'm pretty broke we decided to couch surf while we were there. On Saturday we flew into Charleroi-Sud (just outside of Brussels) and our couch surfing host picked us up to take us to a nearby photography museum.

The museum was situated in a beautiful convent with an attached library and cafe. We proceeded to poke around for a few hours and ended up drinking cécémel chaud to warm up. Our host Roberto was a little eccentric but generally friendly and though his english was ok, I found it surprising how little english was actually spoken and understood in Belgium. It might've just been in the areas that we were but my high school french was definitely used to its full extent.

We ate dinner on Saturday at our host's home and I bonded with non-english speaking Esteban (Roberto's son) over Temple Run. Turns out phone games are universal.

Then Sunday morning Roberto drove us into Brussels and we explored the city for the day.
We started the day off at a little cafe with two old men who were already drinking beer (at ten in the morning) and a cat lounging on the radiator.

It was snowing pretty much all day so it felt a bit like Christmas.

And it was cold. I wasn't always happy.

This is the Grand Place in Brussels and according to Roberto is the most beautiful square in Europe.

Of course we ate so much chocolate we felt sick.

After training back to Jambes where our host lived, he took us up to the castle that overlooks the town. Though our fingers froze and we nearly died on the slippery roads the views of Jambes made it all worth it.
